At Sisters Healing Space, we hold the philosophy that “Out of Sisters Healing Space shall grow trees, trees healing nations and generations.” Rooted in this belief, we embarked on a meaningful journey from Perth to Brisbane to host an empowering workshop.
On a vibrant Sunday afternoon, we came together for the Blossom & Bloom Self-Care Soirée—a gathering dedicated to fostering self-care, building community, and inspiring creativity. Centered around the theme “Watch Her Bloom,” the event invited women to reflect on their personal growth and embrace the transformative power of caring for themselves and one another.
Through a series of intentional activities, participants explored the parallels between nurturing flowers and nurturing themselves, while also contributing to a meaningful cause. We took our guests on a journey to bloom : Here’s a look back at the highlights and the profound impact of the event.
Seeds of Intention
We began the afternoon with a grounding activity, “Planting Seeds of Intention.” Guests were invited to reflect on their goals, dreams, or a part of themselves they wish to nurture. Each person wrote their intentions down and symbolically “planted” them in small pots.
Just as a seed begins its journey in the soil, so too do our aspirations require a foundation of care, patience, and attention.
One participant shared, “Writing down my intention felt like taking the first step in a journey I’ve been putting off. It reminded me that even small actions matter.”
This simple yet powerful exercise encouraged attendees to set meaningful goals and trust in their ability to grow.
Watering with Affirmations
Next, participants moved to the “Watering” station, where they engaged in an uplifting group activity. Guests wrote affirmations and words of encouragement, placing them into a shared jar. Afterward, each person drew a random affirmation, reflecting on its significance and how it connected to their current stage in life.
This station highlighted the importance of self-affirmation and collective care. It demonstrated how we can “water” ourselves with positivity while also nourishing those around us.
The affirmation jars were later brought back to Perth to support Blossom & Bloom workshops during WA’s 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence. These workshops, hosted by Sisters Healing Space, provided safe and empowering spaces for women impacted by family and domestic violence.
Feedback from these workshops was deeply moving:
-
“Hearing the affirmations reminded me that I am not alone.”
-
“It felt like someone out there cared enough to write this just for me. Sisterhood beyond borders”
Building Your Bouquet
The final station was all about creativity and celebration at our Bloom Flower Bar! Each guest had the chance to design their own floral bouquet, choosing from an array of beautiful blooms to create something uniquely their own.
This activity symbolized the culmination of growth—the moment of “blooming.” Each bouquet represented the beauty and individuality of the participants’ journeys, reinforcing the idea that every person’s path is uniquely beautiful.
One attendee commented, “Creating my bouquet was such a joyful moment. It reminded me of the importance of surrounding myself with things that make me happy.”
The Power of Sisterhood Through Self-Care
At the heart of the soirée was the understanding that sisterhood is essential for multicultural and Women of Color. Navigating life through the intersecting identities of race, gender, and culture can be challenging. Sisterhood provides a space of belonging where women can find solace, share experiences, and remind each other of their inherent worth.
Self-care within this context becomes an act of resistance and empowerment. It’s a way to reclaim joy, celebrate identity, and nurture wellness. Through the activities and discussions, the event highlighted how intentional self-care—done collectively and individually—strengthens not only the self but also the community.
A Cause Close to Our Hearts
The Blossom & Bloom Soirée was not just an event for reflection and fun—it was also a chance to give back. We are thrilled to share that the profits from the event funded two Blossom & Bloom workshops during WA’s 16 Days of Activism.
These workshops were life-changing for many women, providing them with tools for healing, empowerment, and community. Hosting these sessions was a reminder of the ripple effect that small, intentional actions can have.
Gratitude and Reflection
As we look back on the Blossom & Bloom Soirée, we are overwhelmed with gratitude for everyone who joined us. From planting seeds of intention, watering one another with affirmations to crafting unique bouquets, each moment of the event was filled with purpose and positivity.
We also want to extend a special thank you to our facilitators, Tendai , Rufaro and Runayrao , for guiding us through such meaningful discussions and activities, and to everyone who contributed affirmations to the jars. Your words will continue to inspire and uplift women in need.
For those who attended, we encourage you to keep nurturing the seeds you planted that day. Take a moment to reflect on your intentions, revisit your affirmations, and enjoy the beauty of your bouquet. And remember, self-care is not a luxury—it is an act of love and empowerment.
